Disability Human Rights Complaints Reach All-Time High

The 2009 Annual Report by the Manitoba Human Rights Commission (MRHC) www.gov.mb.ca/hrc/publications/annual_reports/annual-report-09.pdf reconfirmed that disability discrimination is the foremost human rights issue facing the province.

Complaints based on disability discrimination accounted for 47% of all the human rights complaints filed with the MHRC in 2009, a sharp increase from the 41% figure reported in 2008.

But this is really only the tip of the iceberg. Many, if not most, of the 170,000 Manitobans who have a disability continue to face a myriad of barriers in their daily lives.

Tell us about your barriers and discrimination due to your disability that you have experienced.
